Southern Green is delighted to have been invited to take part in the MLA Landscape Architecture course at Newcastle University. Liam Haggarty and Scott Matthews became visiting tutors at the University last year, and since then alongside other members of our amazingly diverse and talented team, have continued to help and provide support and development of this new MLA course.
This semester, Liam will be leading the module, ‘Landscape Sciences, Planting Design and Greenspace Management’. As part of this module, a site visit was carried out at the campus last week to showcase the projects that Southern Green have previously completed for the University, which includes the Student Forum and award-winning Armstrong Courtyard.
Prior to the site visit, Liam provided a presentation exploring the process from implementation to completion of these schemes, documented with photos and detailed planting plans. This was crucial to help students understand the thoughts and steps required to develop the design and the selection of plants. The presentation also gave an insight of his own garden to help students understand the realities of a productive landscape.
We hope Southern Green can continue this exciting and very rewarding work alongside Newcastle University, and help students on their way to becoming our future Chartered Landscape Architects!
