Last week we had the pleasure of giving a tour of the unique facilities which form Oxhey Activity Park (OAP). The purpose was to give a neighbouring Local Authority an overview of how the scheme was implemented from concept to implementation. Discussion focussed on maximising participation of all ages, genders and abilities. With the Freestyle Collective, we explained how each feature was carefully positioned to encourage users to progress from one space to another as well as try new activities. An attendee commented: ‘Thank you for the tour on Thursday, it was really informative and will definitely help with our thinking. You guys have created a lovely facility’.
As well as wheeled sports elements, the development also included a café with a riverside terrace, accessible adventurous play facilities, improved walking and cycling routes as well as a range of biodiversity improvements. Sustainable drainage features were supporting dragonflies, amphibians and water birds such as moorhens.
Working in conjunction with The Freestyle Collective and the wider design team, we are all very proud of how well the site has withstood unprecedented popularity, with visitors coming from across the UK as well as Europe.
