The makings of the new Beeforth’s Hive Operations and Community Centre at South Cliff Gardens are underway. The foundation has been poured and steelwork begins to appear from the depths, a literally ground breaking moment in the scheme. This £6M restoration of the Victorian South Cliff Gardens in Scarborough’s South Bay is one of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Community Fund’s biggest investments and the Beeforth’s Hive will be a vital component in the long-term success of the restoration. Located at the heart of the proposals the new building combines a new fully equipped operations base for the growing maintenance team at the gardens and a new community centre with outdoor classroom, commanding an amazing view across the South Bay towards Scarborough Castle. The South Cliff Community Group were delighted with progress on our recent site walkover. It is hoped that Beeforth’s Hive will provide a home for workshops, skill building and guided volunteer days and a synergy can form between the grounds team and the dedicated community groups of Scarborough that will protect the South Cliff Gardens long into the future.
