Recently, Southern Green has had a wave of wonderful comments received from our Clients and Newcastle University . It is always great to receive feedback from our Clients as it helps us improve our services and grow as a company.
Nathan Fox, Forestry England (Giggle Alley project) commented:
Following a procurement exercise, Southern Green were approached to undertake a feasibility study into the restoration of a Japanese Garden at Giggle Alley, and their final report was received in February 2023. The scope of the report was broadly to give a historical context in terms of the garden’s origins and development, to develop a statement of significance, and present options for its restoration (short-medium and full).
From our initial meeting on site with Simon and Fiona, Southern Green were a pleasure to work with, and fully captured the unique qualities that make Giggle Alley so special. Early in the development stage of the report, it became clear that the report required some further expert input, and Simon researched suitable Rhoddi specialists, and came back with amended costings for their surveys. On our instruction, he then facilitated their brief and met them on site. He also identified local skills, such as a historian and archaeologist, as well as seeking input from Forestry England regarding the future plans for the development of the wider woodland, and how the Japanese Garden can complement this, specifically in linking with the local Eskdale community.
The report has given Forestry England exactly what we need to now move the project on, with a view to developing a funding bid, which will hopefully have support from the local community, local business and other stakeholders. There is significant Forestry England National Team interest in this project, and Southern Green’s report has been well received at a strategic level, as well as locally. We look forward to continuing to develop the project, and remain excited to the possibility of potentially working with Southern Green again in the future, and I would not hesitate to recommend their services to any landowner or manager across the sector.
James Litherland, Placefirst (Esh Winning Project) commented:
Southern Green provide an excellent landscape architecture service, balancing vision and creativity with technical and cost constraints. They drive character and placemaking through their landscape design which help create sustainable community where residents can thrive.
Usua Ruiz Arana, Newcastle University (MLA course support) commented:
A massive thank you to Southern Green for having contributed their time as design tutors and guest lecturers to the Master of Landscape Architecture since its inception in September 2020. Your enthusiasm, care and commitment to assist in all studio modules, from planting design to city action plans, is to be commended. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and insights with students and tutors alike.
Christopher Parker, Tees Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (Hambleton & Richmondshire Community Hub project) commented:
Part way through construction we discovered that there would be a sizable amount of the spoil to remove from site. Scott was able to adapt our landscaping design to avoid wasting a large percentage of the spoil; creating bunds and altering the planting scheme to make use of the high alkaline content soil already on site saving what would otherwise have cost tens of thousands of pounds in removal and disposal costs. The resulting wild meadow landscape not only looks great, but also offers good privacy with the now raised perimeter as well as a level of sound deflection from the adjacent road.
Andy Hook, Hooked on Group (Blackfriars project) commented:
We have been passionately promoting Blackfriars unique heritage for over two decades now. Our hospitality operation has expanded over the years to include a banquet hall, parlour bar, tasting room and cookery school. Our intention has always been to renovate the somewhat neglected cloister garth into a vibrant space to be enjoyed by the whole community. The outcome is better than I could have possibly imagined. Liam has been absolutely magnificent throughout this process - he’s held my hand, has always been one step ahead, helpful, supportive and full of useful advice - a real credit to your company.
Colin Bennett, Keepmoat (Heaton Downs & Merrington Lane projects) commented:
Southern Green recently supported Keepmoat Homes in submitting two Homes England bids concurrently; not an inconsiderable task. They not only provided first class design but it was also made delivered to programme despite several layout iterations as the design progressed. The Homes England designs scores for both bids were second to none and it was down to the willingness of Southern Green to engage with the rest of the design team throughout the bid that enabled such quality bids to be submitted. Southern Green are our first port of call for major tenders.
Kevin and Tracey Oxley, private clients (Aelle Hill Barn project) commented:
Liam Haggarty of Southern Green helped us with a Landscaping scheme in a paddock and field we own adjacent to our family, country home. We set a specific target for Liam of creating an instant, natural wind-break for our residential garden, creating a miniature 'country park' feel within the 3 acres of land, but with low maintenance needs and enhancing the outlook from our home. The scheme Liam came up with was stunning, beautifully designed, fully compliant with our goals and with abundant variations of different tree and shrub species. Our contractor then installed the scheme to specification and we could not be more pleased with the finished project. It will be our legacy for generations to come and all thanks to Southern Green and Liam.
