The new play facility at Harebreaks lies on the edge of ancient woodland which is a dedicated Local Nature Reserve. The area has been wooded since 1600AD and presented sensitive design constraints in relation to root protection areas, flora and fauna. It was imperative that proposals were sympathetic to the surrounding woodland environment.
The large play unit is nestled in the canopy of mature oak trees, which inspired the design of the unit. The play tower is 22 metres in length and totals 12 metres in height enabling adventurers to experience the scale of adjacent woodland as well as giving views across the surrounding landscape/townscape. Users can ascend the unit by climbing walls, bridges or via scramble nets. A netted area provides opportunities for quieter play, resting and relaxation.
