This Victorian park was laid out by Hull entrepreneur Zachariah Pearson, who gifted it to the people of the city in 1862. Southern Green helped develop the masterplan and led a successful bid for National Lottery funding, which secured a grant of £3million for its restoration.
As lead designer and contract administrators Southern Green developed detailed restoration proposals and oversaw delivery of the works, which included reinstatement of the lost bandstand and footbridge over the lake. The Victorian conservatory was replaced with a replica steel structure and there was park-wide refurbishment of benches, bins and footpaths. Soft-landscaping improvements and tree works completed the project, along with the comprehensive restoration of the grand cast iron archway at the park’s entrance.
