Last weekend, a number of our dedicated team along with their young family and some friends braved the freezing cold wind and sideways rain and attended a community woodland planting session at Ushaw Historic House, Chapels and Gardens. This follows on from previous volunteering sessions with Living Woods North East (28th March 2022 and 27th Jan 2023).
The planting sessions at Ushaw Historic House are targeting to plant 1500 trees and shrubs, which will provide essential shelter, homes and feeding opportunities for the various and extensive wildlife in and around the park. Despite the freezing conditions, it was a very rewarding and wholesome experience, and a step in the right direction to reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the sustainability and green growth of our local area. In the two hours they were there, the team of 8 managed to plant around 50 trees and shrubs. 50 down, 1450 to go!
