Client
Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Middlesbrough Council
Location
Middlesbrough, Teesside
Boho 5 was developed in partnership by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Middlesbrough Council. The joint venture is part of a wider Middlehaven regeneration masterplan.
The project supports the development of Teesside University’s digital courses and the successful formation of the DCB (Digital Business City) as a platform for emerging creative businesses within the digital and creative sectors. The brownfield site has been transformed by the landscape which provides the Boho 5 building with a high quality, vibrant setting.
The enhancement and expansion of the key pedestrian route between Middlebrough College and the town centre was a key element of the design. Sculptural gabion walls, wildflower areas for ecological habitat creation and a focal seating area at the building entrance all combine to coherently link this unique and exciting development to the surrounding public realm.
