As part of the design team for this new Primary Care Centre in Houghton-le-Spring, Southern Green provided the detailed landscape design for the extensive external spaces surrounding this new healthcare facility.

The landscape scheme includes generous areas of native planting and ecological habitat creation, as well as decorative ornamental planting, a large number of mature specimen trees, a SUDS pond and the use of sustainable hard landscape materials where possible.

In addition to this the scheme also includes a community garden, external physiotherapy exercise equipment, a relocated skate park and multi use games area. This project was the first healthcare facility in the UK to achieve the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating.
