Southern Green was shortlisted for the Landscape Institute and Barnet Council’s international design contest for West Hendon Playing Fields. Entrants were required to create an innovative vision for the future of the 33 Hectare site.

Southern Green’s vision for the project was to respond to the sites existing natural assets, promoting four principle themes: Climate change resilience, enhancing biodiversity and sustainability, promoting health and well-being whilst ensuring inclusive and accessible use of the parkland.

A wide range of innovative features were proposed, including an engaging community hub which linked to natural swimming and wet play areas. These connected the sites natural blue corridors to promote activity in natural environments whilst creating sustainable drainage solutions. Inclusive and interconnected activity trails flowed through the park, creating diverse and welcoming recreational spaces, surrounded by nature.
