The Seaton Delaval estate is a registered Grade II* landscape located near Whitley Bay. As the home of the Delaval family it is one of the most important estates in the North East, and is also reputedly one of John Vanbrugh’s finest works.
Southern Green was appointed by National Trust to prepare detailed landscape proposals for a project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund entitled “The Curtain Rises”.
Southern Green worked within a design team of specialist consultants, leading the detailed design proposals for the extensive external works throughout the site. The project included the restoration of a number of historic garden spaces, alongside new contemporary interventions such as an bespoke woodland play area, two mirror sculptures (by Studio Hardie), extensive new planting, new seating/ cafe areas and an improved footpath network throughout the site.
All plants and trees for the project have been sourced in accordance with the National Trust biosecurity guidance, with all stock grown ‘peat free’ from source.
